Football shirts are a canvas for Christian Jeffery. From his position as a resident artist at OOF Gallery, he takes the form of the jersey as a starting point for a body of deeply detailed, ultra-precise artworks that combine typography, fashion history and contemporary fine art. What at first glance may appear like ordinary, if beautiful, football shirts, eventually reveal themselves to be paintings on canvas, silk and found textile - paintings which have found a devoted and growing collector base. Previously a senior designer for Adidas, at the heart of Jeffery's work is a research practice that sees him explore the history of sport, club politics, fandom and clothing heritage. Each resulting artwork is unique; a hand painted football shirt filled with detail, passion, history and stunning aesthetics.
